Never before has humanity experienced such a speeding-up of knowledge, information and action. One is able to perceive this particularly in the big cities. Because of globalisation our living space and hence our life has changed enormously. Nowadays the common and familiar space limits are torn open. This is why for the altered needs of humanity new social and architectonic rooms appear.
Searching and experimenting with phenomenon of space and time on different levels are the basics for Silvia Erdems installations. They are utopian spaces, that are actually closed and separated from the rest of the world. By challenging our altered life conditions, on the one hand they trigger a loss of orientation and, on the other hand they function as a resort, far away from our hectic daily life and give us a chance of self-reflection. Upon entering the room the artist guides the observers into a fantastic ambience, which challenges their familiar patterns of perception of which the content is experienced in an associative way.
Silvia Erdem is creating a compex 3D film documentation dealing with new forms of art in public space of Istanbul which comment and pick water out as a central theme.
